our leadership model
In this church we depend on volunteers for most of the duties performed. We have a set of bylaws that is also created by and voted on by the whole body. The large majority of these boards and or committees have 2 year limits. We encourage all members to get as involved as they are able. We are an atonomous and independent gathering of believers; therefore we do not answer or are we controled by a denominational governing body. All decisions from calling a Pastor to large projects or financial decisions must come before the congregation and must pass by a majority in a democratic decision process. All other staff positions are part-time.
Pastor Matt Stafford
Senior Pastor
Pastor Matthew Stafford was appointed to serve as First Congregational Church of Hutchinson's Senior Pastor in 2005. Prior to that, he served as the Associate Pastor of Temple Baptist Church and as a local financial planner.
The attributes that best describe Pastor Matt as a pastor are strong preaching, leadership development and counseling. He has expressed a burning desire to lead a church like First Congregational Church of Hutchinson where biblical views and education are embraced and encouraged, with members who care about the needs of those around them and who want to connect others to the body of Christ. Pastor Matt takes worship and preaching very seriously, spending the first hours of his day focused on Bible study. He believes, as our church covenant states, that Jesus Christ is the only head of the church and the Holy Scriptures are the final word of authority in all matters made known or to be made known to us. Pastor Matt also enjoys music and humor.
He graduated from Arlington Baptist University, Arlington, Texas in 1984 with a degree in Pastoral Theology. Matt was ordained into the ministry January 6th of 1985. Pastor Matt was installed as Pastor at First Congregational Church of Hutchinson on June 6th of 2004.
Pastor Matt has been happily married for 42 years to his wife, Becky. They have three Children : Allison Petersheim (Travis) , Emilie Stafford and Anna Stafford , and two grandchildren; Cora and Isaac.
